After talking about MY FAV COMPRESSORS PLUGINS FOR MIXING in this article, I'd like to tell you what are my favourite EQs for mixing. I'd like to clarify that out there there are lots of plug-ins and of course, I didn't have the opportunity to test and work with all of them. Over the years I found what I like the most and today I'd like to share them with you.

best equaliser

1. FABFILTER PRO Q3

I have been using it since Q2, and now Q3 is my favourite go-to eq for cleaning sounds. I basically have one of these on any channel. There are many features that I love:

  • it has a lot of bands available

  • it can work in Stereo, Mid-Side, only R or only L mode

  • it can work as dynamic eq

  • it can work at Zero Latency or Linear Phase mode

In a few words, it's super flexible.

2. IK MULTIMEDIA EQP-1A

This is an emulation of the famous passive equaliser. (SEE THE ARTICLE: MY PULTEC TOP TRICKS)

What I like is its character, richness, the harmonics content it brings in and the tight low end.

I always have one of these guys on the master channel but also on vocals, bass and kick. This plug-in is also capable of working in Mid Side mode.

3. FOCUSRITE RED 2

The original hardware unit comes from the ISA 110 circuit and what I like of the plug-in version is its smooth and warm tone. Another thing that I love about this eq is the design. Focusrite didn't put a detailed scale on each pot, and this forced the user to use the ears rather than look for numbers.

Slate Digital FG A

4. SLATE DIGITAL FG A

This is the emulation of the API 500 A, one of my favourite EQ ever. I like the philosophy behind this eq: the frequencies knob goes straight to some essential frequencies, and the 2db steps boost/cut knobs don't leave headroom for doubts. No compromises. The plug-in emulates very well the original unit and the OPAmp button brings in all that analogue flavour. Also Slate Digital doubled the mid-band making it a four-band Eq. There is a feature which I don't use at all, but someone might like it. By hitting "cmd", you will turn the pots from fixed to continuous.
